Girl Power

I started my weekend early by attending two great estate sales orchestrated by very knowledgeable women. I have found that most of these estate companies are run by ( and mostly staffed by) women and I think that's fantatstic.

I went to a Cranberry Row Estate Sale and a Lori Palmer Estate Sale today, and they were both staffed by friendly people who offered to help you with any questions that you had. I was greeted with a smile and even though it was hectic for the sales people, they remained professional at all times.

Gotta give you shoppers a tip, though. Don't challenge an estate professional as to whether a Louis Vuitton handbag (or any other luxury brand item) is authentic or not. It is her job to know her merchandise, and if it is a knock-off, she will tell you! If you don't believe her, don't buy it!

If you want to check if you are getting a good deal on luxury brand, look on Ebay or Portero.com.

  1. as a woman owner of an estate sale company I find the men who work for me a valuable asset. They are always willing to help customers carry and load merchandise.. Most estate sale companys will not offer any hekp carrying or loading furniture

  2. As a woman estate sale company owner, I am sad to see the rudeness that several sales have been conducted with. I am also sad to see these newer companies with people running them that do not have a background and years experience in antiques and collectibles. Buyer beware rather client beware! The knowledge of items is your protection when deciding to sell your belongings. Be sure the liquidator is not a jump in newcomer looking for a minimum and disregarding detail. The minimum makes it so they don't have to pay attention to all of the valuable things to be found. They are making their money so things are priced with abandon. Not good for you. Make sure you select an owner who has integrity and background. It makes all of the difference in the world. This business is about people-personal and complicated-it should be attended to with heart and mind not greed in hand. Good Luck!

  3. p.s. the company you select should be pricing everything before the sale. NO pricing on the spot. They should also have things orderly and displayed with taste-best for promoting your items. An estate ales company that presents a sale with "where is as is" and hiring inexperienced people to "price at the door" or in the individual rooms for them is a sure sign of a very poorly run business. and very Not good for you. Best luck!:-)
